Graduation and Doctoral Theses

Graduation Theses

The libraries hold all the graduation theses discussed at the University of Florence. A dedicated catalogue lists the titles of all theses from 1976 to the present.

It is possibile to consult the print format of the theses according to the Regolamento di Ateneo (in Italian), which is currently being revised in order to include digital format works.

Doctoral Theses

Doctoral theses discussed at the University of Florence are NOT held in the libraries. More recents ones are online.

Since December 2012 it is mandatory to submit the complete text of theses to the academic repository of the University.  Doctoral theses can be searched via FLORE (Florence Research Repository) or via OneSearch.

In some cases, theses are not accessible for a period of time (embargo), as established in Articles 29 and 30 of the Regulation for Doctoral Research Programmes (in italian)

"Historical" Graduation Theses

In 2008 the University started a work of conservation of the historical graduation theses; among them the works of some Italian personalities such as the orientalist Umberto Cassuto, the archeologist  Federico Halbherr, the irredentists Giani Stuparich and Scipio Slataper, the poet Mario Luzi, the actor Paolo Poli and Sandro Pertini, partisan and future President of the Italian Republic.

The historical catalogue includes the theses from the Philosophy and Philology sections of the Regio Istituto di studi superiori, pratici e di perfezionamento, founded in 1859. Since 1924 also the graduation theses of the Faculties of Humanities, Law and Political Sciences are included.

On the occasion of the 2018 exhibition "The Theses of the First Women Graduates in Florence" more than 150 theses discussed by the first women graduates in Florence from the late 19th century to the threshold of World War II have been digitized and published online.

The "historical" theses are searchable in OneSearch
