Antique books of the Museo Galileo

The Antique books collection of the Museo Galileo is now part of the Unifi catalogue

The catalogue of the University has been enriched by a small but precious collection of bibliographic resources: The books of the Antique archival collection of the Library of the Museo Galileo. It comprises more than 5000 volumes of scientific topics published from the beginning of the 16th century to the beginning of the 19th century; these have already been merged with the online catalogue of the national catalogue (SBN). Half of them come from the collections of the Library of Sciences, having been entrusted to the Museum in 1980.

The loan relates in fact to a much larger number of bibliographic and documentary units: About 19600 volumes, brochures, atlases, geographical and geological maps, both antique and modern (the publication dates are between 1475 and 1984), the most valuable of which come from the Medici-Lorraine collection, Geology and Upper Physics Archival collections of the former libraries of Physics and Geology. These resources are currently recorded in the only local catalogue of the Museo Galileo and will hopefully be integrated into oneSearch in the course of the next few years, along with the sharing with the national catalogue, in order to reunite - albeit in a virtual way - the main historical collections of the Library of Sciences.
