From September 15th to October 15th, the Engineering branch of the Technology Library is exhibiting a selection of volumes from its historical collection dedicated to the subject of Italian colonial Africa. This event is linked to the bibliographic exhibition The Francolini Collection: from colonialism to post-colonialism, held at the Social Science Library in collaboration with the Historical Archives and the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnology of the University of Florence, the Department of Political Science, and FAF – Toscana Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia.
The exhibitions aim to showcase the collections on colonial and post-colonial Africa housed in the University Library System, partly through a dedicated reading path on OneSearch, where a subject collection on "Colonial Africa" has been created.
The books exhibited at the Technology Library - Engineering include, in particular: two publications from 1911 concerning the construction of the Eritrean railway between Massawa and Asmara, and a 1939 commemorative work on the construction of the motor road between Assab on the Red Sea (present-day Eritrea) and Addis Abeba.
