The Social Sciences Library, on the occasion of ScienzEstate 2025, the educational event organised every year by the University of Florence to bring science closer to the public, offers the following activities:
Visit to the Social Sciences Library: during the guided tour of the Library, the collections dedicated to sustainability issues will be presented.
For the occasion, the “Letture al centro” (Readings at the Centre) cycle will focus on this topic (Bibliography).
Palestine, Egypt, Arabia... Aldobrandino Malvezzi's library between Orientalism and decolonisation: guided exhibition of antique books from the Social Sciences Library in the Sala Rari (on the second floor).
Science workshop: participatory science, or citizen science, dedicates a Science Shop(pe) to the care of plants and books through repotting and minor restoration:
- Green library: adopt a plant from the Social Sciences Library: the BSS plants need repotting.
- A pound of books to feel free: taking care of a book also means carrying out minor restoration work.
- The tree of sustainability: a free and collective display of quotations, reflections, poems, drawings, reading suggestions...
The activities have been prepared with the help of part-time students working at the Library and will take place both outdoors, in the spaces in front of the Library, and inside the Library itself.
