19 July 2025 marks the 33rd anniversary of the Via D'Amelio massacre, in which Judge Paolo Borsellino and five escort agents lost their lives.
Less than two months earlier, on 23 May 1992, Giovanni Falcone had suffered the same fate: the magistrate Francesca Morvillo and three escort agents died with him.
Following these tragic attacks, the names of Falcone and Borsellino became symbols of the fight against Cosa Nostra: thanks to their collaboration in the anti-Mafia pool, conceived in the early 1980s by the head of the Palermo Education Office Rocco Chinnici and later developed by his successor Antonino Caponnetto, they contributed to understanding and combating the mafia phenomenon.
To the figure of Antonino Caponnetto was recently dedicated the presentation of the volume 'There was perhaps a time. The story of the love between Nino and Bettina Caponnetto' by Massimo Caponnetto, in which the magistrate's personal and professional experience is intertwined with the events that characterised the fight against the Mafia.
