Jorge Eduardo Eielson and ancient Peru. Exhibition 8 November -2 December. Humanities Library

From 8 November to 2 December 2022, the Humanities Library is hosting the exhibition Jorge Eduardo Eielson and Ancient Peru. The exhibit includes some pre-Hispanic (Inca cultures, Chavín, Paracas, Moche, Chimú, Chancay, etc.) artifacts, including earthenware, and quartz, as well as textiles, books on archaeological and ethnographic topics related to the pre- and post-Hispanic Andean world, books by Peruvian indigenous writer José María Arguedas, and some works by Jorge Eduardo Eielson. The pre-Hispanic artifacts and artists’ works come from Eielson’s collections, now curated by the Jorge Eielson Study Centre, while the books on display are drawn from both Eielson’s private library and the Humanities Library collections.

The exhibition will be opened on 8 November at 5 p.m. by Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, winner of the 2010 Nobel Prize in Literature.

After greetings from the Director of the Humanities Library, Dr. Laura Vannucci, and a presentation by Mario Vargas Llosa, Prof. Martha Canfield, and Dr. Antonella Ciabatti will take a guided tour through the display cases to illustrate the material on display.

This will be followed by an aperitif hosted by the Jorge Eielson Study Centre.

The exhibition is part of the initiatives to be held in Florence on 8, 9, and 10 November 2022, around the figure of Mario Vargas Llosa. The events, organized by the Jorge Eielson Study Centre with the collaboration of the University of Florence, Le Lettere Publishing House, and the City of Florence, also include:
