The collection was established in 1936 together with the Degree Programme in Architecture. Now it is the most comprehensive collection specialised in Architecture in the whole Tuscany. The library has, over time, enriched its collection with works on history and critique of architecture, urban studies, building technology, interior design, industrial design, fashion and contemporary art.
There is a wide range of Italian and foreign journals about architecture and the decorative arts as well as various archives (in Italian) of the XX century that represent a valuable source for the study of those topics.
The graduation theses (in Italian) of the School are also held in the Library.
The book collections of the following former departments have been incorporated into the library's main collection: History of Architecture and of the Town (section A3RECUP); Restoration and Conservation of Architectural Heritage (section A3RESTA and ARRESTA); Architectural Planning; TAeD; Construction and Town Studies.

Books are freely accessible on open shelves.
The latest 10 years of the most popular journals are on open shelves. (About 150 titles)
Audio-visual material must be requested from the library staff.
All materials held in the closed stacks (Pozzo librario, Periodici Pozzo, Rari, Fuori formato, Tesi, Fondo ex-Progettazione) should be requested at the loan desk by filling in the dedicated form.

On Wednesdays and Thursdays, reading is available from 9.30 to 13.30 at the Sala Archivi e Fondo Storico on the second floor.
The library's archival collections can be consulted by Italian and foreign researchers and scholars on Wednesdays and on Thursdays from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm: ask for an appointment (in Italian). To arrange different times or days, please contact the librarian Gianna Frosali: gianna.frosali(AT)unifi.it. The service is suspended during August.
To be able to access the archives users should provide valid motivation and the scope of their research.
Graduating students need a presentation letter from their lecturer.
It is customary that a copy of the work resulting from the material being consulted should be given to the library for their records. (Essays, articles, reproductions, publications, etc.)

To read and borrow books from these collections that have been incorporated into the Architecture Library it is necessary to place a reservation through OneSearch. Journals can be requested by sending an email to: email@example.com. Copies of journal articles can be requested via My account. The material will be available from Wednesday afternoon following the request at the Architecture Library. Reference books, journals, and rare and valuable books are not for loan.
Rare and valuable items, journals, graduation theses, Didattica and Reference call numbers are for reading only.
Borrowed items must be returned by the due date. Late returns will incur a suspension from borrowing for a number of days equal to the days the loan was outstanding. The suspension is automatically calculated by the system.
The borrowing service closes at 6.45 pm.
