Reading and Loans

Reading and Loans

General information on reading and loan services for the entire University Library System

Books and journals in the reading rooms are on open shelves.

In the Humanities branch library there are thematic reading rooms:  Philosophy, History, Italian Studies, Neo-Latin Languages, General, Foreign Languages, Classic Antiquity, Archaeology, Middle Ages and Renaissance, Oriental Studies, Linguistics, and the rare books room for the consultation of archives and special collections.

Most of the material in the branch libraries of Education, Psychology, Philosophy and History of Art are on open shelves.

For all items held in bookstacks a request slip must be filled out and handed to the staff at the loan desks. Call numbers and all information on loan status is available on the OneSearch online catalogue and on card catalogues for items acquired before 1989. Historical catalogues are located in each library.

Access to some documents, due to their poor conservation status, or subject to specific copyright or other restrictions, is limited or permitted only in a restricted area

In the Humanities branch library loan service starts at 9 am. Between 1 and 2 pm items from the bookstcks are not available for loan. In the Education branch library the loan service is closed between 1 and 2 pm, except for items on open shelves and those with call number starting with DEP, using the self-check desk that requires a valid user card.

For opening hours check the individual branch libraries webpages.
