On-site reading, loans, renewals, reservation at the Sciences Library

On-site reading

All books and journals can be read on-site.
Ask the librarians for assistance or if you need more information.

Borrowed items must be handed back to staff or placed on dedicated returns trolleys before the library closing time.

Loans

Users can:

  • borrow multiple items from any library at the same time
  • renew the loans if there are no recalls on the items
  • place holds on books already on loan to other users
  • renew the loans over the phone or online logging in to the My account on Onesearch

Modern books 1916 onwards Set books
Students: bachelor's, master's, single course, professional masters, specialisation school, authorised external users, graduands, internal users, users from other universities
Standard loan: up to 4 volumes for 1 month (renewable up to 4 months) Short loan: up to 4 volumes for 15 days (renewable unlimited times but for a maximum of 120 days total)
Tech/Admin staff - internal and from partner institutions, teaching staff, PhD students, research fellows, subject specialists, Unifi pensioners
Standard loan: up to 25 volumes for 1 month (renewable up to 2 years) Short loan: up to 4 volumes for 15 days (renewable unlimited times but for a maximum of 120 days total)

Overnight and week-end loans

Reference books can be borrowed overnight and during week-ends or public holidays.

Items can be borrowed a few minutes before closing time and must be returned by 9.30 am the next business day.

Home-delivered loans

Available to users with physical disabilities. For more details.

Non-member loans

External users (i.e. that are not part of the University as staff or students) can have temporary  borrower status by having an authorisation form signed by a manager or teaching staff.

Items not for loan

  • works published before 1915 included
  • journals and reference books
  • damaged books
  • valuable and special collection items
  • books from other libraries marked for reference only
  • maps
  • photographs
  • graduation theses
  • cd-roms

Penalties

Users must return items by the due date. Later returns will incur in suspension from borrowing for the same amount of days the items were outstanding. If more than one item was outstanding the days will be summed up automatically by the system.

Students

Students can borrow with their student card or a valid photo ID. It is possible to borrow up to 4 volumes for each branch. More details on OneSearch
